How to clean an iron – as essential a task as the job itself!

Ironing’s a task most of us love to hate, and it seems there’s another activity to add to the mounting piles of laundry: excavating the iron itself.

Yep, that’s right: the iron plate can become easily clogged after hours spent straightening out those creases.

Here are our (tried and tested!) methods to combat a grimy plate:

1. Concoct a paste out of water and baking soda, and daub this on the (cool!) iron.
2. Use a duster to make sure the paste gets into all the nooks and crannies of the iron’s soleplate and clean off any excess.
3. Turn the iron on the steam setting to remove the last of the paste in the vents
4. To finish off, fill the iron’s water supply with boiled, but cool water and white vinegar. Turn the steam on and leave the iron on an old towel to collect any impurities.

There you have it – those annoying smudges you often inexplicably find on clothes after ironing will suddenly disappear and the task of ironing might just become a little easier.
